School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
Pomona State School has worked extensively to create a whole school approach to the explicit teaching of expected behaviours, in line with our Student Code of Conduct. (3363KB PDF)
We aim to promote self-managed behaviour using four simple guides:
• Care for self
• Care for others
• Care for learning
• Care for our environment
• Use common courtesies
School wide positive behaviour support works on the premise that the explicit teaching and modelling of behaviours will assist children in making positive behaviour choices. Expected behaviours are taught directly, and are reinforced through a variety of means including focus lessons, parade reminders and visual prompts around the school.
Supported Play operates every break time to support children in learning 'the rules of the game.' In a small group situation a staff member works with children during break times, supporting them in developing appropriate social skills so they can participate fully in games and activities with their peers.
A Shared Responsibility
The welfare of students is a shared responsibility across the school, rather than the sole responsibility of the class teacher.
Therefore, all members of our school community are committed to:
• Using common courtesies;
• Showing respect and caring for others;
• Taking care of personal belongings and the belongings of others;
• Following Code of Conduct;
• Helping others work and learn;
• Maintaining our school as a safe, clean, healthy and happy place;
• Respecting others’ ways and ideas;
• Being honest, friendly and caring; and,
• Sorting out problems fairly and calmly.
